Tappers With Attitude Youth Ensemble (TWA) is a unique, multicultural group of dynamic young performers on the cutting edge of the renaissance of tap dance since 1991. TWA is made up about 25 dancers ranging in age from 10 to 18, representing more than 20 schools in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
The Company is available for bookings to perform in a wide variety of venues, ranging from corporate parties or national conferences, to arts festivals; from elementary school PTA events to professional dance venues; from museum or embassy events to not-for-profit fundraisers. We can put together a 15-minute set, a full-length hour-and-a-half dance concert, or nearly anything in between. Call us today to discuss your entertainment needs!
The Company's repertoire includes more than 40 pieces, performed mostly to jazz recordings. Their material includes the works of internationally famous tap artists and choreographers, including Lane Alexander, Brenda Bufalino, Ayodele Cassel, Dianne Walker, and Baakari Wilder; a capella pieces are also performed, including a South African Gumboot dance, a body percussion piece, and a piece which incorporates body percussion in addition to tap.
TWA received the Metro DC Dance Award for "Outstanding Youth Performance" in 2004 and 2007, and was also a finalist for the 2006 award. The company performs regionally, nationally, and on stages throughout the Washington metropolitan area, and has appeared on local and national television; in 2007, the company was included in a special All-American tap extravaganza commissioned for the Beijing International Dance Festival.
